AAL was proud to host the 2021 Australian LSST Workshop, held online on Monday 13 Dec 2021 from noon-5pm AEDT (9am-2pm AWST).
Australian Science Lead for the Rubin Observatory’s Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), Prof. Sarah Brough, provided an update on our in-kind contributions and funding to secure LSST data access rights for 47 Australian PIs (and a further 188 Junior Associates). After that, we heard from presenters on recent work relating to the LSST or the various LSST Science Collaborations, and discussed how we can all help build a better LSST@Australia community for everybody.

Astroparticle physics is a rapidly emerging field at the intersection of particle physics and astrophysics. China and Australia are both key players in this field, with involvements in a number of world-leading facilities, and host to major theoretical activities. This workshop in particular looked at the nature of dark matter, other 'cosmic relics' and studies of high-energy particles and their origins.

In anticipation of the Period 111 proposal deadline at the end of September, AAL and Australia’s ESO Scientific Technical Committee and Users Committee representatives (Michael Murphy and Sarah Sweet, respectively) would like to invite our community to an on-line ESO proposal writing workshop to be held on Thursday 8 Sep from noon-2:30pm AEST (10am-12:30pm AWST).

This year marks the 50th year of Australia-China diplomatic relations and there will be an impressive line-up of invited speakers as well as plenty of opportunity for members of both the Australian and Chinese communities to present their latest research. The workshop will cover all areas of astronomical collaboration between Australian and China.

AAL, ADACS, and AAO Data Central are gearing up to provide in-kind software engineering effort to Rubin Observatory, as well as host an International LSST Data Access Centre (IDAC) in Australia, to be funded through a combination of an ARC LIEF grant and NCRIS funding.
