Job Opportunities

AAL is interested in promoting job opportunities, arising from the many projects we support, to the broader astronomy and technical communities in Australia. Currently, there are job vacancies on projects located locally and abroad – please see the listings below – and be sure to click on “Learn More” to be directed to the respective job portals for each project.

ESO Job Opportunities

In conjunction with the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources, AAL is currently promoting ESO job opportunities to the Australian astronomy community. As part of the 10-year Strategic Partnership between the Australian Government and ESO, Australian citizens are granted the same opportunities as citizens of an ESO member country to apply for job vacancies with ESO. Opportunities arise regularly on the ESO jobs website that span a wide range of professions, including vacancies for:

  • Scientists (including fellow and post-doctoral positions)
  • Engineers
  • Technicians
  • Media/PR officers
  • Human Resource personnel
  • Administrative Staff.

Please see the link below for new job opportunities listed every week.

SKA Job Opportunities

Australia is a founding partner of the SKA and one of the host countries for the observatory. AAL is pleased to promote employment vacancies with the SKA Organisation – please see here or the link below for current vacancies.

Other Job Opportunities

Astronomy jobs are regularly promoted by the Astronomical Society of Australia (ASA) by way of emails sent to their list of members. For information on how to become a member of the ASA, please see their website

New worldwide job opportunities in astronomy and technical support are posted each month on the American Astronomical Society’s Job Register. The Royal Astronomical Society in the UK also maintains an e-mail distribution list of astronomy PhD and job opportunities.
